United Talent Agency (UTA) has signed writer and director Leah Nelson for representation across all areas. This move comes as Nelson's profile significantly increases following the critical success of her directorial debut, 'Tangles.'
The animated feature, which received an emotional ovation and critical acclaim at its world premiere in Cannes in May, centers on a young woman who postpones her art career to care for her mother diagnosed with Alzheimer's. The film features a notable voice cast including Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Bryan Cranston.
Nelson co-adapted the screenplay from Sarah Leavitt's graphic memoir, drawing from personal experiences with Alzheimer's disease. Prior to 'Tangles,' Nelson established a career in commercial directing and co-founded the multiple Emmy Award-winning Vancouver animation studio Giant Ant, as well as Kiddo Films.
Since its Cannes debut, 'Tangles' has been screened at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and is set for its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Nelson also continues to be represented by Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
