Forty years after its founding, the legendary Uptown Records has officially relaunched its operations. The iconic hip-hop and R&B label, established by the late Andre Harrell in 1986, will now operate under the REPUBLIC Collective umbrella.
Danielle Price Sanders has been appointed as the president of Uptown Records and executive VP of REPUBLIC Collective, with Natina Nimene joining her as executive VP of urban audience and artist relations. Sanders expressed her honor in carrying forward Harrell's legacy and supporting new artists.
The revived label's current rap roster features prominent artists such as G Herbo, Yung Miami, and Trap Dickey. Fans can anticipate new music from these artists later in 2026. Both Yung Miami and G Herbo have previously achieved success on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, with Yung Miami's "Spend Dat" and G Herbo's "Went Legit."
Uptown Records was a seminal label in music history, with its original roster including artists like Mary J. Blige, The Notorious B.I.G., and Jodeci. Andre Harrell passed away in May 2020, and this revival seeks to honor his significant contributions to the genre.
