A theatre production from the UK, designed to educate young people about domestic abuse, has expanded its reach to the United States. Soundproof Box, a social enterprise based in Bradford, England, has collaborated with the Megan Montgomery Foundation and the University of Alabama to present 'Red Flags Interactive' to American audiences. This initiative signifies a growing demand for early intervention education concerning domestic abuse, acknowledging that the issue transcends geographical boundaries.
The play, inspired by personal experiences, was created to offer support and education before abusive situations develop. It has already been experienced by an estimated 35,000 young people in West Yorkshire and was featured at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2024. The production adopts a talk-show format where actors present relationship scenarios, and the audience actively participates by flagging problematic behaviors.
This interactive approach involves three facilitated segments, allowing for audience engagement, questions, and observations. The goal is to foster critical thinking and discussion around healthy relationships and the early indicators of domestic abuse, providing a unique educational experience for young attendees.
