Twins Tackle Eating Disorders and Body Image in Chilling New Horror Film

In their new horror film "Thinestra," twins Michelle and Melissa Macedo, 37, tackle the weighty topics of body dysmorphia, disordered eating, and society's unhealthy fixation on physical transformation. The sisters play Penny and her evil doppelgänger Penelope, respectively, with Penny's struggle with body image leading to her "birthing" Penelope after taking a weight loss drug.

Ahead of the film's premiere at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain on October 18, 2025, the Macedo twins spoke about the importance of having each other's support on set for such an emotionally draining role. "It was good to have each other as support on set, for sure," Michelle said, noting the "gross aspects" and overall difficulty of the subject matter.

The sisters hope the film will resonate with viewers and inspire them to be more compassionate towards themselves. "It's like, 'Would I say that to my best friend? No.' That is very hard to forget and become fully aware of the self-talk we have towards ourselves," Michelle explained. Melissa echoed this sentiment, saying, "No matter how much we try to be someone different, or to be this different version of ourselves, it will be so much less painful to try and accept who you are where you're at."

In addition to acting, the Macedo twins have a long history of making music together, which they say has been a creative outlet and "good balance" during challenging times. Their new EP, set to drop in November 2025, is timed to the film's release and features what Melissa calls "creepy Christmas music."
