Trisha Yearwood Pauses Career to Prioritize Family Life

In 2025, acclaimed country music star Trisha Yearwood spoke about her decision to put her career on hold after marrying fellow country artist Garth Brooks. Yearwood, who had seen tremendous success in the 1990s with hits like "She's in Love with the Boy," explained that she chose to focus on her marriage and family when she moved to Oklahoma with Brooks.

"When I married Garth and I moved to Oklahoma, I stopped," Yearwood said. "I wasn't touring 200 days a year anymore. I was a bonus mom to three children, and I was trying to make a marriage work, because I had learned that marriages don't work if you're never together." Yearwood emphasized the importance of being physically present, attending her stepchildren's soccer games and cooking dinner for the family.

Since their marriage in 2005, Yearwood has been outspoken about how she consciously shifted her priorities to prioritize her family life. She credits her upbringing and her supportive family for keeping her grounded throughout her success. "It's family. It's about how you're raised," Yearwood shared. "I always say, 'I don't always do the right thing, but I know what the right thing is because of how I was raised.'"
