The narrative originates in the mythical land of Kumari Kandam, where sages safeguard scriptures of immense power. They entrust the warrior Trikala Varma with protecting humanity from evil forces by safeguarding a divine weapon. Trikala Varma sacrificed himself battling dark powers, his soul preserved in Maya Andam for a future return during the Kali Yuga.
Filmmaker Manithellagutie wrote, directed, and edited the movie, which stars Shraddha Das and Mahendran, alongside Ajay and Sahithi Avancha. Harshavardhan Rameshwar composed the music, with Shajith Humayun creating the background score.
Upon its theatrical debut, 'Trikala' garnered mixed responses. Some critics and viewers found the initial premise engaging but felt the story lost direction and failed to develop its potential. The film's exploration of Sanatana Dharma was also a point of contention for some, who felt it didn't fully meet promotional expectations.
