Their artistic partnership, which began 15 years ago when Trier cast Reinsve in a small role in "Oslo, August 31st," has blossomed into a celebrated union. Reinsve gained international recognition for her lead role in Trier's "The Worst Person in the World," for which she won a Best Actress prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
"Sentimental Value" centers on two sisters dealing with generational trauma after their estranged film director father re-enters their lives. Trier praises Reinsve's "energy, playfulness and charisma," noting her profound ability to access and convey complex emotions. He and Reinsve found common ground in exploring themes of longing for home and finding one's place, often on stage or in cinema.
