The Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation (TNHDC) is organizing a Navarathri golu doll exhibition and sale in Trichy. This event, held at the Poompuhar sales showroom near Singarathoppu, will continue until October 31. Additional Collector T Swathi Sree inaugurated the exhibition on Wednesday.
The exhibition proudly displays approximately 125 distinct sets of golu dolls. These include popular styles like Kondapalli, wooden, paper-mache, and clay figurines, alongside unique traditional sets. Among the highlights is an intricate Ramayana set crafted from paper-mache, priced at Rs1.2 lakh.
New arrivals such as Poori Jeganathar and Tiruvarur Thiyagarajar Kamalaambal are proving popular and selling quickly. The dolls are primarily crafted by artisans from Trichy, Thanjavur, and Madurai. TNHDC is offering a special 10% discount on all items during the exhibition.
Last year, sales reached approximately Rs40 lakh, and organizers anticipate achieving around Rs45 lakh this year. The TNHDC aims to promote the excellence of Tamil Nadu's traditional handicrafts and the talent of its artisans, inviting the public to support these skilled craftspeople.
