Gurgaon has welcomed Treasure of India, a new gallery dedicated to traditional, tribal, and indigenous art. Its inaugural exhibition, 'Navratna: Indigenous Masters,' is curated by art historian Uma Nair and founded by artist Tanisha Bakshi. The gallery extends a 45-year family legacy, with its philanthropic arm, the Treasure of India Art Foundation, focused on global recognition and economic support for master artisans.
The exhibition highlights the works of nine national award-winning artisans. Their creations span a wide range of techniques, including 4,000-year-old lost-wax metal casting and various forms of traditional Indian painting. The gallery's mission is to preserve the lineage of Indian art and elevate creators onto the world stage, ensuring their skills and generational legacies receive acclaim.
Curator Uma Nair emphasized the beauty and richness of Indian heritage found in the works. She noted that these pieces by award-winning artists serve as vehicles for intimate expression, touching upon broader philosophies of life through both humble and spiritual themes, echoing Mahatma Gandhi's sentiment that the soul of India lies in its villages.
