Cereal Boxes Get a Toy Makeover!
24 Apr
Summary
- Toys are returning to cereal boxes after a decade-long absence.
- Special boxes feature characters from Disney and Pixar's 'Toy Story 5'.
- Nostalgic appeal aims to reconnect parents and children through play.

After more than ten years, plastic toys are making a comeback inside select breakfast cereal boxes. Starting Sunday, consumers can find toys themed around characters from Disney and Pixar's "Toy Story 5" in specially marked boxes of Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, and Corn Pops. The movie is slated for a June release.
This initiative revives a cherished childhood tradition, as plastic toys were once a common fixture in cereal packaging. While toys largely disappeared due to cost-cutting and safety concerns, including a 2004 incident involving mercury batteries in Spider-Man watches, they occasionally reappear for limited runs. Kellogg views "Toy Story 5" as an ideal fit, resonating with the film's themes of toys in a technologically advanced world.
Laura Newman, a brand marketing vice president at Kellogg, stated that bringing toys back into the box offers a moment of discovery and screen-free play. This aims to create a shared experience that parents can now pass on to their children, reconnecting with a beloved aspect of breakfast cereal history.
