Summary
- Retired Imagineer notes scale inconsistencies in new attraction.
- Lilypad's placement conflicts with Toy Story Land's established timeline.
- New music overlay for Alien Swirling Saucers launching September 25.
A retired Walt Disney Imagineer, Jim Shull, has shared his observations regarding a new addition to Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The attraction, Alien Swirling Saucers, is set to introduce a character named Lilypad on Friday, September 25, with a new musical overlay titled 'Lilypad's Jams.' This overlay features remixed Toy Story classics and new songs.
Shull, who has a 33-year career with Disney Imagineering, highlighted two primary concerns. Firstly, the scale of Lilypad appears inconsistent with the park's established theme where guests shrink to toy size. He noted that the design should align with the scale of objects within Andy's backyard.
Secondly, Shull questioned the narrative placement of Lilypad, who belongs to Bonnie and not Andy. He suggested that this character should reside in Bonnie's backyard, as they represent different generations. This discrepancy, he feels, could detract from the immersive experience for park guests.
The addition comes amidst broader discussions about theme park adherence to self-imposed rules, following recent changes in areas like Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. While many park-goers prioritize character interaction and rides, such details can impact the overall illusion of the theme park experience.
