Pixar has unveiled new footage for "Toy Story 5" at CinemaCon, introducing a novel antagonist named Lilypad, a tablet voiced by Greta Lee. This installment explores the theme of digital addiction as Bonnie becomes entranced by the device, depicted with a frog-shaped border.
Veteran voice actors Tom Hanks and Tim Allen introduced the new scenes. The footage shows returning character Jessie confronting Lilypad, highlighting the conflict between traditional toys and modern technology's hold on children. The tablet, which isolates Bonnie by inviting her to a sleepover via a group chat, is a central point of tension.
The film boasts a robust cast, with many stars from previous "Toy Story" films reprising their roles. These include Joan Cusack, Tony Hale, and Keanu Reeves, among others. The sequel also features new voices such as Conan O'Brien and Ernie Hudson.
Andrew Stanton, a key figure in the franchise, co-wrote and directed "Toy Story 5," with Kenna Harris as co-director and co-writer. This marks the first "Toy Story" film since the highly successful "Toy Story 4" in 2019, which garnered over $1 billion at the box office and won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Randy Newman will once again compose the score for the film.
