Barry Keoghan's 'Jonny Boy' Series Coming to Netflix

A new five-episode prequel series, titled 'Jonny Boy,' has been greenlit by Netflix, expanding the universe of the BAFTA-winning British drama Top Boy. This series will focus on the character Jonny McGee, who was introduced in the final season of the original show.
Barry Keoghan, celebrated for his roles in 'Saltburn' and 'Banshees of Inisherin,' will reprise his portrayal of Jonny, the Irish drug partner to Sully. Keoghan will also executive produce the series through his production outfit, Wolfcub. Filming for 'Jonny Boy' is slated to commence in 2027.
Ronan Bennett, the creator and writer of Top Boy, is returning for this prequel. Additionally, Aubrey Graham, known as the Canadian rapper Drake, who was an executive producer on the original series, is also involved. Ali Abbasi will direct the new series.
The original Top Boy series first aired from 2011 to 2013 before being revived by Netflix in 2017, ultimately concluding with its fifth season in 2023. The drama, set in Hackney, East London, earned a BAFTA TV Award for best drama in 2024.
