Tony Shalhoub Joins New CBS Drama

Actor Tony Shalhoub will join the upcoming CBS drama, tentatively titled 'Einstein,' in a recurring role. He is set to portray Jack Einstein, the father of the show's protagonist, Lewis, who is played by Matthew Gray Gubler. Shalhoub previously worked with executive producers Andy Breckman and Randy Zisk on the popular series 'Monk,' where Shalhoub starred as the titular character.

'Einstein' centers on Lewis, the great-grandson of theoretical physicist Albert Einstein. The character is described as a tenured professor whose life takes a turn when his "bad boy antics" lead him to assist a local police detective, played by Melissa Fumero, in solving complex cases. The series is slated for a midseason premiere.

Matthew Gray Gubler and Melissa Fumero, who play Lewis and Teri respectively, have expressed excitement about their on-screen dynamic and working with the show's creative team. Fumero noted that the show balances humor and drama, offering a tone that is more grounded than 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' but still retains significant heart and fun.

The series is produced by CBS Studios. The cast also includes Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor as Capt. Frost. Executive producers include Andy Breckman, Randy Zisk, Michael Rauch, and others. Matthew Gray Gubler also serves as a producer on the show.
