In September 2025, actor Tony Danza, now 74 years old, recounted a memorable encounter he had with legendary singer Frank Sinatra 30 years ago. Back in 1995, Danza had the opportunity to sing for Sinatra during his televised 80th birthday tribute. Danza, who was not known as a singer at the time, said that Sinatra "liked [his] performance."
However, the interaction took an unexpected turn when Sinatra appeared to lose his balance while perched on high steps. Danza recalled putting his hands under Sinatra to steady him, but Sinatra then "threw his elbow back and almost got [Danza] in the chin." This caused Sinatra to turn and "snarl" at Danza, telling him to "Back off! What's your problem?"
Danza was initially shocked by Sinatra's reaction, but Sinatra's close friend and confidante, Jilly Rizzo, later pulled Danza aside and reassured him. Rizzo told Danza not to worry, as Sinatra's outburst was actually a sign that he liked Danza.
Danza, a lifelong Sinatra fan, has continued to honor the legendary singer's legacy. He now hosts a sold-out cabaret show in New York City called "Sinatra and Stories," where he shares anecdotes about his interactions with Sinatra and performs covers of Sinatra's hits.
