The summer of 1975 finds 19-year-old New Jersey writer Tony embodying a spoiled and self-destructive youth, as he once described himself. Confident he'll secure a prestigious fellowship, Tony's ego is quickly deflated when he doesn't get it.
Having already informed his parents of his supposed success, Tony then travels to Cape Cod to pursue Nancy, a girl he is infatuated with. He soon learns she is unavailable, leaving him desperate for money and accommodation.
Tony finds himself working for Chef (Antonio Banderas), who runs a modest lobster establishment in Provincetown. The initial clash between the carefree Tony and the strict Chef profoundly alters Tony's life trajectory.
Directed by Matt Johnson, known for "BlackBerry," the film "Tony" balances Bourdain's signature humor with his early personal struggles. Dominic Sessa delivers a standout performance as Tony, while Banderas shines as his tough-talking mentor, providing both comedic and emotional depth.
