A safe that once held the notorious sex tape of Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson recently sold at Julien's Auctions for $2,560. This price fell short of the $5,000 to $7,000 estimate. Lee's personal inscription on the safe declared, 'This is the safe that ruined my life!' A portion of the sale's proceeds will support MusiCares.
The theft and online distribution of the eight-minute tape, made during the couple's honeymoon, marked a significant moment in media history, widely considered the first celebrity sex tape to go viral online. The tape was stolen in 1995 from Lee's Malibu home by Rand Gauthier, an electrician he had reportedly fired.
Beyond the tape, the safe contained valuable items including rifles, watches, and jewelry. The saga later inspired the 2022 Hulu drama 'Pam & Tommy,' though Pamela Anderson has stated the series was made without her consent. Tommy Lee notably commented that he and Anderson 'broke the internet first.'
