Summary
- Holland requested a delay to film Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey'.
- The schedule shift allowed for director Destin Daniel Cretton's involvement.
- Holland's 'The Odyssey' filmed and wrapped nine days ahead of schedule.

Tom Holland disclosed that he initiated a delay in the production of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day'. This decision was made so he could participate in filming Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey'. Holland initiated an "uncomfortable conversation" with Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman upon discovering both projects were slated for simultaneous filming.
Sony ultimately agreed to shift the filming timeline for the fourth Spider-Man installment. Holland noted that Nolan's reputation for adhering to schedules meant 'The Odyssey' began and concluded nine days earlier than planned. This adjustment was pivotal, as Holland believes it "saved" 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' by securing director Destin Daniel Cretton.
Holland explained that the six-month period gained allowed for extensive script development with Cretton, leading to what he considers the best Spider-Man film yet. The actor also addressed past comments about potentially stepping away from the role, clarifying his desire to eventually pass the torch. Both 'The Odyssey' and 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' are slated for back-to-back releases in July 2026.
