In November 2025, acclaimed actor Tom Hanks is back on the stage, starring in the new Off-Broadway play "This World of Tomorrow" that he co-wrote. However, the two-time Oscar winner has already encountered some challenges with the production, admitting that he has gone up on his lines during preview performances.
Hanks, 69, appeared on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" earlier this month to promote the play, where he joked that his co-stars Kelli O'Hara and Ruben Santiago-Hudson have had to remind him to learn his lines. "I disappeared the other night, as a matter of fact," Hanks told Colbert, adding that his co-stars "all just kind of look at me and go, 'Come on, man. I learned my lines, haven't you learned yours?' "
The actor explained that co-writing the play has been a "pleasure and a joy," but also "as terrifying a situation I've ever had." Hanks noted that the key difference between film and stage is that on stage, "if it's not on the page, it ain't on the stage," putting more pressure on the writers to get every word right.
"This World of Tomorrow" is now in performances at The Shed in New York City, with an eight-week limited run scheduled through December 21, 2025.
