Summary
- Tom Bergeron, original DWTS host, to return as guest judge for 20th anniversary
- Bergeron was critical of show's decision to cast Sean Spicer, leading to his exit in 2020
- Bergeron says he was "betrayed" by producers over Spicer's casting

In a surprising turn of events, Tom Bergeron, the original host of Dancing With The Stars, is set to make a comeback as a guest judge for the show's 20th anniversary special on November 11, 2025. Bergeron, who had hosted the popular dance competition since its launch in 2005, exited the show in 2020 after being publicly critical of the producers' decision to cast former Trump White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer in Season 28.
Bergeron has now revealed that his departure was due to a "betrayal" by the show's producers. He had previously discussed potential contestants with the showrunners, agreeing that the show should be a "wonderful escape from that divisiveness" of the 2020 election cycle. However, when Spicer's name was later added to the cast, Bergeron was outraged, feeling that the producers had gone against their earlier agreement.
Despite his disappointment, Bergeron acknowledged that the producers had the right to make that decision. Nevertheless, he knew that his time on the show was likely coming to an end. Bergeron offered to "take the season off," but the producers instead opted to let him out of his contract, leading to his departure.
Now, five years later, Bergeron is set to return to the show he once helmed, this time as a guest judge for the 20th anniversary special. "It feels really good," Bergeron said, expressing his excitement about the opportunity to be part of the milestone celebration.
