600 Workers Unemployed Amidst Industry Ban
8 Apr
Summary
- Over 600 workers in Kolkata and Mumbai are jobless.
- A production house is reportedly banned by the Federation.
- Industry leaders are divided over cancel culture.

A significant number of film industry professionals are facing unemployment due to a controversial decision. Approximately 600 workers in Kolkata and Mumbai have lost their jobs after Tollywood decided not to collaborate with Magic Moments, the production house behind the film 'Bhole Baba Par Karega'.
This action has sparked widespread criticism, with many questioning the industry's 'cancel culture' and the Odisha Police's decision to allow a shoot if necessary permissions were absent. The Federation's 'ban' on 12 actors and directors, resulting in about 600 individuals being out of work, has divided the industry.
Some industry members, like Rwitobroto Mukherjee, oppose banning individuals, characterizing the refusal to cooperate with a production house as a form of cancel culture. However, they argue that Magic Moments avoided accountability, spread misinformation, and failed to apologize, necessitating a similar response to arrogant production houses.
Several films, including 'Bhole Baba Par Karega', 'Chiroshokha', and 'Jhanak', are currently stalled. Another production house, Organinc Studios Pvt Limited, has also halted shooting for 'Kone Dekha Alo'. Actors and directors express deep distress over their sudden unemployment, highlighting their financial responsibilities and the uncertainty of future work.
