A new bronze statue honoring the celebrated singer and actress K.B. Sundarambal was unveiled in her hometown of Kodumudi, near Erode. The ceremony, which took place on Sunday, was conducted via videoconferencing by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
Ministers and other officials were present at the event. Relatives and theatre artists expressed their deep gratitude for the recognition of Sundarambal, who was famously known as 'Kodumudi Kokilam' by the late Chief Minister M. G. Ramachandran.
K.B. Sundarambal's illustrious career included being a famous singer and actress, and she was notably the highest-paid actor in Tamil cinema at the height of her fame. Her impactful roles, such as in the film 'Avvaiyar,' and her contribution to cinema were widely acknowledged. She also built a cinema hall in Kodumudi in 1968 and served as a Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in 1958 during the Kamaraj regime.
