Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has launched the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation, partnering with Berklee College of Music to enhance music education in Nigeria. The foundation's inaugural event, Berklee in Nigeria: Tiwa Savage Intensive Music Program, will bring Berklee faculty to Lagos from April 23-26, 2026, for a fully funded, four-day intensive session.
This program aims to provide 100 emerging Nigerian music creators with world-class training in areas like music production, songwriting, and music business. It marks Berklee's first event in West Africa and is designed to be a springboard for participants, potentially leading to scholarships at Berklee in Boston or online coursework. Savage, a former Berklee scholarship recipient, emphasized the need to bridge the access gap for aspiring artists and industry professionals on the continent.
The initiative addresses the economic vulnerability of African creators by providing education, which Savage believes turns global visibility into empowerment. The foundation's long-term vision includes awarding scholarships for Nigerian students to study at Berklee in Boston and establishing a permanent music school in Nigeria. Applications for the intensive program open on February 24, 2026, and close on March 20, 2026.
