A Canadian gardener, William White, achieved viral fame on TikTok through suggestive lip-sync videos, attracting a devoted older female fanbase. These 'cougar' fans, calling themselves 'The Grotto Girls,' lavished him with hundreds of thousands of pounds and gifts in exchange for attention.
White capitalized on this market, with fans becoming 'addicted' to sending money for recognition. The fandom developed its own community, with some fans traveling to Canada to meet him. However, the line between creator and fans blurred when White became intimate with one follower.
This incident ignited intense jealousy and infighting among 'The Grotto Girls,' leading to harassment and the leaking of White's private photos. The new documentary 'Thirst Trap' chronicles White's rise, the ensuing scandals, and the dangerous consequences of extreme fan obsession.
