In the lead-up to the 2025 TIFFCOM event, the Tokyo Gap Financing Market (TGFM) is making some exciting changes. For the first time, the market will be launching project awards to recognize and support Asian filmmakers.
The top prize is the Tokyo Projects Award, worth $13,300 (JPY2M), which will be selected by an industry jury. There is also the Asian Gen-Z Award, worth $3,300 (JPY500,000), chosen by a committee of Gen-Z film students. Additionally, leading Asian post-production houses White Light and Kongchak will be providing in-kind awards.
The awards ceremony will take place on October 31 at Tokyo Midtown Hibiya, the final day of the TGFM market.
Alongside the new awards, TGFM is also hosting the TGFM Morning Sessions - a series of seminars aimed at filmmakers pursuing international co-productions. The first edition will feature talks by industry experts, including Tania Morissette from Frontières International Co-Production Market, HKIFF Industry director Jacob Wong, and Pascal Diot from the Venice Production Bridge.
This year's TGFM has selected 23 projects, 17 live-action and 6 animation, with a strong representation from Southeast Asia. The lineup includes works from Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, showcasing the diverse talent emerging from the region.
