Tamil Cinema Shows Unity: 'Theri' Re-release Delayed
19 Jan
Summary
- Theri re-release delayed to support smaller films releasing January 23.
- Filmmakers requested postponement via social media, including Mohan G.
- Producer Thanu confirmed the delay, prioritizing support for new talent.

In a notable display of solidarity within the Tamil film industry, the highly anticipated re-release of Vijay's 'Theri' has been postponed. The decision was made to allow smaller films, scheduled for release on January 23, an equitable chance at screen time. This move came after direct appeals from filmmakers on social media.
Director Mohan G, whose film 'Draupathi 2' was set for release on the same date, personally requested producer Kalaipuli S Thanu to delay 'Theri'. He highlighted Thanu's history of supporting new producers and directors. The makers of another film, 'Hotspot 2 Much', also voiced similar concerns about competing with a major re-release.
Responding to these pleas, Thanu announced the postponement of 'Theri's re-release, reaffirming his company's dedication to uplifting emerging talent. This gesture has been met with widespread acclaim, with industry figures like Suresh Kamatchi commending Thanu for his supportive stance. The new release date for 'Theri' will be announced on Monday.
