Terminator Zero Canceled After One Season
13 Feb
Summary
- The series was canceled by Netflix after only one season.
- Low viewership despite strong critical and audience reception.
- Showrunner declined a short offer to conclude the story.

Mattson Tomlin, the developer and showrunner for "Terminator Zero," announced the series' cancellation after only one season. Tomlin cited insufficient viewership as the primary reason, stating, "not nearly enough people watched it," despite acknowledging tremendous critical and audience reception. He expressed a desire to continue the planned Future War narrative for seasons two and three but found satisfaction in the season one conclusion.
The cancellation follows a significant gap since the show's debut on August 29, 2024, with no official word on its future until now. "Terminator Zero" did not chart in Netflix's global top 10 series nor appear in Nielsen's US streaming rankings, underscoring its struggle to gain traction.
Tomlin also disclosed that Netflix offered a limited extension of "2, maybe 3 more episodes" to wrap up the storyline. He declined this offer, believing his intended story was much longer and that the existing finale left the narrative in a good state. He appreciated Netflix's partnership in offering the extension.
The series, set in 1997 Tokyo, centered on scientist Malcolm Lee developing an AI to rival Skynet, who is then pursued by a Terminator and a soldier protecting him and his family.
