Telugu Audiences Embrace Dubbed Malayalam Superhero Film 'Kotha Lokah'

According to producer Naga Vamsi, the Telugu-dubbed version of the Malayalam superhero film 'Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra', titled 'Kotha Lokah', has found appreciation from audiences. However, Vamsi believes that the same film might not have been as well-received if it had been made directly in Telugu.

During a discussion with actor Ravi Teja and director Kalyan Shankar, Vamsi explained that Telugu audiences can be highly critical of films. "If Lokah was straight made into Telugu, people would have found countless ways to criticise it. They would have said there's a lag in the narrative, there is no flow etc. Nobody would have watched it," he said.

Vamsi also pointed to other recent examples that showcase the unpredictability of Telugu moviegoers. He cited the success of the small-budget film 'Little Hearts', which outperformed bigger star-driven releases despite having no major actors or a known director. "These days, film-goers are very edgy. Nobody can tell what they will like," Vamsi noted.

The producer further observed that movies released outside of festival periods tend to face more scrutiny, with audiences being "fashionable to point out lack of novelty or originality in conventional mainstream films."

'Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra', directed by Dominic Arun and starring Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen, follows the story of a mysterious woman entangled in a dangerous syndicate. The film is the first in a planned five-part series, with the next installment focusing on Tovino Thomas's character, Chaathan.
