The New Basement Tapes' "Kansas City" has achieved the top position on Billboard's Top TV Songs chart for August 2026. This marks a significant return for the track, which was featured in the highly anticipated fourth season premiere of Ted Lasso on August 5. The song garnered 1.9 million streams and 1,000 downloads in the United States during August 2026.
This chart success is partly attributed to the show's narrative shift, with Ted Lasso now coaching a women's soccer team. The New Basement Tapes, a notable supergroup, also includes artists like Elvis Costello and Jim James. Marcus Mumford, a writer and performer with the group, has a further connection to the show as he co-wrote and sings Ted Lasso's theme song.
