Speculation about a feud between Taylor Swift and Charli XCX intensified following a viral clip from the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. The short video, shared on X on September 27, 2026, showed Charli XCX with a straight face while Taylor Swift was accepting an award. This moment quickly garnered millions of views and fueled a narrative of bad blood between the two artists.
However, further context reveals the clip was manipulated to create this impression. The footage of Charli XCX's seemingly unimpressed reaction was actually taken from an earlier part of the ceremony. During that segment, she was solemnly listening as the surviving members of Nirvana accepted their award. The edited nature of the viral video highlights how social media content can be misleading.
