Summary
- Pop star Tate McRae used 660 gallons of gold paint for a striking performance finale.
- The shimmering liquid gold felt like Nickelodeon slime, not glamorous.
- McRae debuted her new fragrance, TATE 01, and announced a new single.

Tate McRae's headlining performance at Lollapalooza featured a memorable finale involving a bathtub filled with shimmering gold paint. The pop star, who has been a staff writer since 2021, shared that the dazzling spectacle, which went viral on August 2, was not as glamorous as it appeared.
McRae described the gold liquid to Jimmy Fallon as similar to Nickelodeon slime, noting the difficulty of crawling out of the bathtub. Despite the messy reality, she expressed satisfaction with the successful execution of the artistic concept. The creative team, including Parker Genoway, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, Ignacio Muñoz, and Alex Clark, sourced 660 gallons of specially developed "skin-safe" gold liquid for the show.
This visually stunning finale was a long-held vision for McRae and de Saint Sernin, who had previously collaborated on her Met Gala dress. The team's effort to create a "molten, gilded, untouchable statue" effect required significant logistical planning, with the gold liquid traveling from Los Angeles and Montreal to Chicago. McRae also announced her new single, "Housewife," slated for release on October 15, and her debut fragrance, TATE 01.
Following her Lollapalooza performance, McRae is set to perform at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show on October 18. Her entrepreneurial venture into fragrance, TATE 01, was crafted in partnership with Scent Beauty, Inc. and Givaudan master perfumers, marking a significant step in her career beyond music.
