Tate McRae: From Bedroom Dreams to Hitmaker Glory

Tate McRae, honored with the 2026 Hitmaker Award, reflects on her musical trajectory and creative process. She strives to imbue her music with empowerment, helping listeners feel like the best versions of themselves. Her songwriting oscillates between exploring profound insecurities and envisioning ambitious dreams.

Originating from Calgary, Alberta, McRae finds deep significance in being recognized for her writing, a passion that began in her youth. As a performer and dancer, this acknowledgment for the creative aspect of her work holds immense value.

McRae describes a hit song as a moment of perfect synergy, where the narrative is complete and no further refinement is needed. This powerful connection is felt both by the creator and the listener.

She emphasizes the importance of an open mind and emotional exploration in songwriting. McRae advises artists to express all ideas openly during the writing process, even if they are not intended for release, as exhausting emotions leads to the most profound creations.
