The new series "Task" marks creator Brad Ingelsby's return to Delaware County, Pennsylvania, the setting for his prior hit "Mare of Easttown." While sharing the creator's distinctive voice and crime genre, "Task" adopts a different visual style, moving from "Mare's" overcast mood to a brighter, summer-infused aesthetic. This new series expands its focus beyond a single community, encompassing a diverse cast from a biker gang to an FBI task force.
The narrative intricately weaves the parallel lives of FBI agent Tom Brandis and Robbie Prendergast, a trash collector who becomes a masked bandit. Both men grapple with the recent loss of their wives, but their responses diverge significantly, impacting their personal spaces and daily routines. The production design vividly contrasts Brandis's structured, desaturated home with Prendergast's looser, more colorful environment.
Artisans on "Task" meticulously crafted the show's specific regional feel, from hairstylist Diane Dixon's creation of Robbie Prendergast's distinctive look to makeup artist Anna Stachow's detailed tattoo work for biker gangs. Costume designer Meghan Kasperlik employed strategic wardrobe choices, like plaid and pleated trousers, to visually represent FBI agent Tom Brandis's added weight and psychological burden, showcasing how production elements enhance character development.
