Tamil Nadu Theatres Demand 6 AM Shows
29 Oct
Summary
- Film bodies seek permission for 6 AM first shows.
- Producers claim revenue loss due to delayed show timings.
- Industry requests 18-hour operation for theatres daily.

The Tamil film industry is actively lobbying for changes to theatre operating hours to boost revenue and compete with neighboring states. Key industry bodies, including theatre and multiplex owners, film distributors, and producer guilds, recently held discussions with the Information and Publicity Minister.
One of the primary demands is the authorization to screen first shows as early as 6 AM. Industry insiders suggest that current showtimes lead to revenue losses, as early online reactions can influence audience decisions by the time local screenings begin.
Furthermore, the delegation proposed allowing theatres to operate for 18 hours a day, from 6 AM to 2 AM. This extended schedule, they believe, could facilitate approximately 1,200 more screenings daily throughout Tamil Nadu. Discussions also covered the complete elimination of the Virtual Print Fee and the enforcement of a strict four-week exclusive window for theatrical releases before any Over-The-Top (OTT) platform availability.
