In a letter to the Union Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Welfare Minister Kiran Rijiju, the Tamil Nadu Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Siva V Meiyanathan has requested the issuance of a postal stamp commemorating Perumbidugu Mutharaiyar, an 8th century ruler of the Trichy region.
Inscriptions found in Sendalai, Narthamalai, and along the banks of the Cauvery River vividly describe Perumbidugu from the Mutharaiyar dynasty as a great administrator, a valiant warrior, and a protector of arts and agriculture. The Tamil Nadu government believes the ancient king's significant contributions to building the nation and promoting the region's arts and culture should be honored.
To this end, the Tamil Nadu government has expressed its readiness to extend necessary assistance and documents to the Union ministry to design the postal stamp for the Tamil king. The move aims to bring national recognition to Perumbidugu Mutharaiyar, whose legacy has remained largely obscured over the centuries.
