On October 11, 2025, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin emphasized the vital importance of the Tamil language in preserving the state's cultural identity and heritage. Speaking at an awards ceremony in Chennai, Stalin presented Kalaimamani, Bharathiyar, M.S. Subbulakshmi, and Balasaraswathi awards to 90 artists in recognition of their efforts to develop and promote Tamil arts and literature.
The Chief Minister lauded the awardees, which included renowned actors, musicians, and folk artists, for their role in maintaining the Tamil language. He warned that the destruction of the language would lead to a loss of Tamil identity, stating, "If a language is destroyed, our race and tradition will also be destroyed, and we will lose our identity. If we lose our identity, we can no longer call ourselves Tamils."
Notable recipients of the awards were actors Sai Pallavi, S.J. Suryah, and Vikram Prabhu, director Lingusamy, musician Anirudh, and singer Swetha Mohan. Veteran singer K.J. Yesudas was honored with the M.S. Subbulakshmi award, which was accepted by his son Vijay Yesudas on his behalf.
