Downtown Norfolk's waterfront transformed into a bustling scene on Friday, reminiscent of busy city sidewalks, as thousands gathered for Sail250 Virginia's Parade of Sail. More than 25 international tall ships, accompanied by hundreds of recreational and military vessels, paraded along the waters near Town Point Park shortly before noon.
Despite the threat of rain and overcast skies, spectators lined the waterfront, many adorned in red, white, and blue attire and waving American flags. The parade featured ships from sixteen different countries, with notable appearances including vessels flying Swedish, Peruvian, and Indian flags. The crew of the USS Bataan was also present, assisting in mooring the arriving sailboats.
The Sail250 Virginia festivities are set to continue throughout the region until Tuesday, with this weekend’s events running concurrently with Harborfest 50, offering a rich schedule of maritime celebrations.
