Syed Asif Ali, a distinguished artist and veteran art teacher, died on Monday at the age of 54 following a sudden cardiac arrest. He was on duty at Mahalasa College of Visual Art in Alake at the time of his passing. Ali was widely recognized for his distinctive, vibrant watercolor landscape paintings, often created en plein air.
Born in 1972, Ali pursued his passion for art, earning a Master of Visual Art in 2008. He dedicated his career to teaching, joining Mahalasa College of Visual Art in 1996 and eventually serving as the Head of the Department of Applied Art. His 30-year career was marked by participation in national and regional exhibitions and receiving numerous accolades, including the Karnataka Lalithakala Academy State Award.
Ali was highly valued by his students for his personal mentorship and inspiration. His mortal remains were made available for public homage at Mahalasa College and Kodialguthu Centre for Art and Culture before being transported to his hometown for burial. Condolences have been extended by organizations like the INTACH and Art Kanara Trust.
