Sydney is anticipating a monumental weekend as over 350,000 people are expected to converge for a diverse array of music and culture events. The centerpiece is the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade, set to dazzle with an estimated 250,000 spectators, 170 floats, and 10,000 marchers along Oxford Street.
Adding to the city's vibrant schedule, international music icons Grace Jones and Bad Bunny will be performing. Jones is slated to play at the Opera House forecourt for an audience of 6,000, while Bad Bunny will entertain 40,000 fans at Engie Stadium. Nearby, the Hilltop Hoods will also perform for 15,000 people.
Beyond the major entertainment, Sydney's south-west will see over 50,000 people at Lakemba's Ramadan night markets. To manage the extensive crowds, Sydney's metro will operate all night, a service dubbed the "Mardi Gras Express," with additional 24-hour train and light rail services also in effect.
Security measures are being heightened, with NSW Police conducting a high-visibility operation to ensure the safety of all attendees. While there is no specific threat, organizers and authorities are prioritizing a secure and inclusive environment for the community and allies. The NSW Minister for Tourism highlighted the weekend's significance, calling it another blockbuster event following a successful start to 2026 for Sydney.
