The players are set to wear this distinctive jersey during the club's upcoming game on World Mental Health Day. The shirt's design is deeply symbolic, featuring a diamond pattern reminiscent of Pink Floyd's song 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond,' written in tribute to Barrett. The chosen colors, orange and blue, are inspired by the cover of Barrett's solo album, 'The Madcap Laughs'.
In a significant move to support well-being, a proportion of replica shirt sales and proceeds from an auction of the match-worn shirts will be directed towards mental health initiatives. This project aims to highlight World Mental Health Day through Barrett's enduring legacy.
The shirt's release coincides with a concert celebrating Syd Barrett, who grew up in Cambridge. This event, planned for what would have been his 80th birthday year, will take place on October 10th at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, the venue of his final live performance.
