SXSW London's Screen Program will open this June with the world premiere of Tina Ghavari's "Virginia Woolf's Night and Day." The film, based on Woolf's 1919 novel, centers on a young woman challenging societal norms to pursue astronomy. Haley Bennett stars as the lead, with Jack Whitehall, Jennifer Saunders, Lily Allen, Sally Phillips, and Misia Butler also in the cast. Director Ghavari and several cast members are expected to attend the premiere.
The festival's second wave of film announcements includes "Savage House," featuring Richard E. Grant and Claire Foy, and a first look at the animated series "Get Jiro." Based on Anthony Bourdain's graphic novel, the series is set in a future Los Angeles ruled by master chefs. The Official Competition section will showcase six diverse films, described by Head of Screen Anna Bogutskaya as "formally audacious and deeply human."
Beyond film screenings, SXSW London will host a series of talks. Topics range from "Toy Meets Tech" and "BookTok to Screen"—exploring the adaptation of viral literary trends—to discussions on casting, creative leadership, and the economics of global co-productions. These sessions aim to engage attendees with the latest trends and challenges in contemporary cinema and media.
