SWAT Spinoff Filming Wraps, Awaiting U.S. Network Deal
10 Feb
Summary
- SWAT Exiles filming is set to conclude today.
- The series lacks a U.S. network but has international interest.
- Sony TV aimed to retain creative control by delaying sales.

Filming for S.W.A.T. Exiles, a spinoff of the popular crime drama, is scheduled to wrap today. Headlined by Shemar Moore, the new series, which features Hondo leading a team of untested recruits, has yet to secure a U.S. distributor. However, screenings are planned for tomorrow in Culver City and New York, with further presentations to international buyers in London on February 26, drawing significant interest with over 600 RSVPs.
Sony Pictures Television strategically delayed sales to retain creative control, a move that could prove advantageous given recent successes of acquired programming. The series, which received a $15.7 million tax credit to film in Los Angeles, operates on a "classic broadcast budget" and aims to develop new stars with its young ensemble cast. Fan favorites from the original S.W.A.T. will also appear as guest stars.
S.W.A.T. Exiles was developed rapidly after the original series' cancellation in March, with a 10-episode order quickly secured. Sony TV has already established deals in several international markets and is exploring the possibility of a global deal, leveraging the flexibility of having produced the episodes regardless of sales pace. This approach allows for finding the ideal home for the series in each market.
