Sutton Foster's Surprise Duet with Hugh Jackman

Sutton Foster delivered a captivating nearly two-hour performance at The Soraya on Saturday night, engaging the audience with a mix of show tunes and classic songs. She performed alongside the Pacific Jazz Orchestra, led by conductor Chris Walden, with Michael Rafter on piano. Foster emphasized the value of live performances, stating, "We are all live humans, and this is a live orchestra, and you are a live audience."

Her setlist included several Cole Porter numbers and other pieces, shared with anecdotes about her life and family. During the first half, Foster experienced a momentary vocal hiccup before singing "Anything Goes," but gracefully paused, highlighting the importance of self-care. This relatable human moment was met with understanding from the audience.

The second half featured more musical numbers, including a mash-up of "If I Were a Bell" and "Singin' in the Rain." The evening's biggest surprise occurred when Hugh Jackman unexpectedly joined Foster on stage during "A Doodlin' Song." The couple, who have been together for nearly two years, engaged in playful banter before performing "A Million Dreams," a song they had previously workshopped together 12 years prior.

Foster concluded the main performance with "Meantime" and an encore of "Till There Was You," during which the audience was invited to sing along. The concert marked the kickoff of The Soraya's 2026-27 season, its 16th season overall, and the first under new executive and artistic director Chad Hilligus.
