- Her father's unwavering support, signing over assets to demonstrate financial intent
- Easier adoption process for second daughter Alisah
In a recent interview, Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen revealed the challenges she faced in adopting her elder daughter, Renee. The legal battle to adopt Renee spanned from when Sen was 21 until she was 24 years old, a period marked by constant fear and uncertainty about the court's decision.
During this time, Sen's father played a pivotal role in supporting her adoption journey. When the court asked him to demonstrate "financial intent" to support the child, he unconditionally signed over half of his assets, telling the court that he had not raised his daughter to be "someone's wife." The court had also warned Sen that as a single mother, she would never find a suitor, but her father's unwavering support proved crucial.
After the arduous path to adopting Renee, the process was easier when Sen later adopted her second daughter, Alisah. The actress also shared her views on marriage, defining it as "companionship" and stating that she no longer needs a man for diamonds or properties, only for the companionship he can bring to her life.
