According to a recent report, the upcoming Springsteen biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere will feature some surprising musical choices during filming. In an interview, actor Jeremy Strong, who plays Springsteen's manager and producer Jon Landau, disclosed that he listened to the 1993 hip-hop hit "Whoomp! (There It Is)" by Tag Team to get into the right mindset for a pivotal scene, rather than Springsteen's own music.
Strong explained that director Scott Cooper encouraged the cast to find "intuitive ways to make something real" on set, even if it meant using unexpected audio cues. "I wanted it to be a moment of real exhilaration and almost euphoria, so I asked them to put on 'Whoomp! (There It Is),'" Strong said, adding that the upbeat track "does it every time" in terms of capturing the right emotional energy.
Co-star Jeremy Allen White, who portrays Springsteen in the film, agreed, noting that the "Whoomp!" moment brought "joy, every time" they filmed the scene. Director Cooper praised the unorthodox approach, saying, "It's amazing" how the unexpected music choice elevated the pivotal moment.
Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, based on Warren Zanes' 2023 book, follows the legendary musician as he grapples with his past, present, and future while creating his acclaimed 1982 album, Nebraska. The film is set to hit theaters on October 24th and also stars Paul Walter Hauser, Stephen Graham, and Odessa Young.
