Derek Lui, a former executive from LevelK and Memento International, has established Surprise H, a new sales agency based in Sydney. The company is set to introduce its initial slate of three films to buyers at Cannes.
These films, described by Lui as "emotionally driven and distinctive storytelling with strong international potential," represent the agency's core focus. The selection includes Daniel Ribeiro's "I Am Going To Miss You," which premiered at BFI Flare and explores a transgender couple's journey. Wregas Bhanuteja's "Levitating," a supernatural drama set in Indonesian trance party culture, also features on the slate.
Completing the initial lineup is "Larirang," a Korean-language drama by Sunhee Na. Set during Lunar New Year, it centers on a Korean immigrant family in Los Angeles. Lui emphasized that these films share a sense of emotional clarity and universal appeal despite their specific voices and experiences.
Surprise H aims to champion films that "connect through feeling, perspective and originality." The agency, which will be making its market debut, intends to add more titles to its roster in the upcoming months.
