'Karuppu' Release Set Amidst Song Controversy

Suriya's 'Karuppu,' directed by RJ Balaji, is scheduled for a major theatrical launch on May 14, 2026. This rural action film has generated considerable anticipation after several delays, including missing previous 2025 and early 2026 release slots. The confirmed summer release date has appeased stakeholders.

The movie boasts a star-studded cast and is expected to have wide appeal. A song, 'Naanga Naalu Peru,' sung by Silambarasan, went viral but also drew heavy criticism and online trolling for its arrangement. This negative reception led to speculation about its inclusion in the film.

In a recent interview, director RJ Balaji clarified that the song's removal from the final cut was part of the original plan, not a reaction to the trolls. He stated, "Fans might think I took it out because of the trolls, but our original plan was not to include it in the final version." The film, featuring Trisha Krishnan as the lead opposite Suriya, also has music composed by Sai Abhyankkar. It will be released in Telugu as 'Veera Bhadrudu,' further expanding its reach for what is poised to be a major summer release.
