Union Minister Suresh Gopi assured film producers that their concerns would be escalated to the Central government. Following a meeting with representatives from the five southern states' film industries in Kochi, Gopi committed to addressing critical industry issues.
The producers outlined several urgent matters requiring government intervention. These included the significant shift in revenue structures due to the rise of OTT platforms during the Covid-19 pandemic and ongoing challenges with intellectual property rights.
Minister Gopi requested a comprehensive report detailing the industry's concerns and proposed solutions. He emphasized that this report would be submitted to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, with copies also sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs for appropriate action.
Piracy was identified as a major threat, with producers noting the increasing sophistication of piracy networks. The minister pledged to request direct intervention from Union Home Minister Amit Shah to combat this menace.
Further discussions addressed certification-related difficulties and the financial risks they impose on filmmakers. The minister acknowledged that issues like 'review bombing' and YouTube content also require stronger safeguards and government determination for enforcement.
Gopi also commented on internal matters within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), expressing confidence in the industry's ability to resolve its own disagreements organically.
