16 Jul
Summary
- Supreme Court to hear plea on animated film's release.
- Plea challenges Orissa HC order staying film's release.
- Temple committee cited scriptural inconsistencies in deity's portrayal.

The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for Friday concerning a plea against the Orissa High Court's decision to halt the release of the animated film "Mahaprabhu Jagannath." This move comes after the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee requested a delay, alleging the film presents a fictional narrative of Lord Jagannath's life contrary to Hindu scriptures.
Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb, the titular king of Puri and chairman of the temple committee, stated that the film's trailer depicts a story not found in sacred texts. He appealed to the producers to postpone the release until the content is authenticated by experts appointed by the Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration to avoid offending devotees globally.
The film was initially slated for release on July 10, preceding the annual Rath Yatra festival. The producers, Ele Animations Pvt Ltd, have not yet publicly responded to these objections.
