The Super Mario Galaxy Movie picks up after its predecessor, with Mario and Luigi continuing their work in the Mushroom Kingdom. Princess Peach remains ruler, and a miniaturized Bowser is held captive. However, Bowser Jr. initiates his own plan from afar, targeting Princess Rosalina, the guardian of the cosmos. His goal is to harness her powers to fuel a galaxy-destroying weapon and orchestrate his father's escape.
Fan favorites like Toad return, joined by newcomers such as Yoshi, voiced by Donald Glover. Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, along with screenwriter Matthew Fogel, demonstrate a deep understanding of the source material, weaving in numerous elements from the Super Mario games. The film's vibrant animation and Brian Tyler's score, which incorporates iconic game music, create an immersive experience.
With two post-credit scenes, one offering a humorous callback and the other hinting at a future installment, the movie not only entertains but also lays the groundwork for a potential Nintendo cinematic universe. It is described as a joyful ride for both children and nostalgic adults, exceeding expectations and promising more adventures to come.
